FIDAE 2004 in Chile
Im Frühjahr 2004 traf sich die internationale Luft- und Raumfahrtgemeinde in Santiago de Chile zur Feria Internacional del Aire y del Espacio. Mit 260 Ausstellern aus 33 Ländern galt die FIDAE im Jahr 2004 als die wichtigste Veranstaltung ihrer Art in Lateinamerika. Auf dem Luftwaffenstützpunkt Los Cerillos der Fuerza Aérea de Chile (FACh) bei Santiago fanden sich insgesamt 128 Flugzeuge zusammen. Für einen europäischen Besucher waren natürlich die einheimischen Typen von besonderem Interesse. Während die Mirage 5 – in Chile Elkan genannt – nur im Static Display gezeigt wurde, konnte man die aus der Mirage 50 entwickelte Pantera auch in der Luft bewundern.
Das staatliche Luft- und Raumfahrtunternehmen ENAER hatte das Muster mit einem Luftbetankungssystem, zwei zusätzlichen Waffenpylonen, einem neuen Bug, Canards, verbesserter Avionik und einem neuen Fahrwerk modifiziert. ENAER brachte auch die ausgestellte F-5E mit einer Betankungssonde und neuer Avionik auf den “Tiger III”-Standard. Sehr exotisch wirkte die zu einem Frühwarnflugzeug umgebaute Boeing 707, die Bezeichnung “Phalcon” trägt. Aus Brasilien kam die Kunstflugstaffel Esquadrilha da Fumaca mit ihren Embraer T-27 Tucanos zu Besuch.
In spring of 2004 the international aerospace community met at Santiago de Chile for the Feria Internacional del Aire y del Espacio. With 260 exhibitors from 33 countries in 2004 FIDAE was regarded as the most important event of its kind in Latin America. At the air base of Los Cerillos of the Fuerza Aérea de Chile (FACh) near Santiago 128 aircraft were on show. For an European visitor the local types were of course of particular interest. While the Mirage 5 which in Chile is called Elkan was shown only in the static display one could see the Pantera developed from the Mirage 50 in the air as well. The aircraft was modified by ENAER, the state owned aerospace company, with an air-to-air refueling system, two additional weapons pylons, a new nose section, canards, improved avionics and new landing gear. ENAER had also brought the displayed F-5E to the “Tiger III” standard with a refueling probe and new avionics. Very exotic looking was the Boeing 707 which was modified into an early-warning aircraft and is now designated “Phalcon”. From Brazil the aerobatic team Esquadrilha da Fumaca came over with their Embraer T-27 Tucanos.
