F-4F Phantom QRA

Mit dem „Phantom-Pharewell“ am 29. Juni 2013 in Wittmund endete nach rund 40 Jahren die Karriere der McDonnell Douglas F-4F bei der Luftwaffe. Bis zu seiner Außerdienststellung sorgte der Jäger für die Sicherheit des deutschen Luftraumes.

Hierzu befanden sich immer zwei Maschinen als Alarmrotte (Quick Reaction Alert, QRA) beim Jagdgeschwader 71 „Richthofen“ in Wittmund in Bereitschaft. Für alle Fälle waren sie mit scharfer Munition und AIM-9-Sidewinder-Flugkörpern bewaffnet. Die Fotos entstanden Ende Mai 2013 über Norddeutschland.

With the “Phantom-Pharewell” on 29 June 2013 in Wittmund, the career of the McDonnell Douglas F-4F in the German Air Force came to an end after around 40 years. Until its retirement, the fighter ensured the safety of German airspace. For this purpose, two aircraft were always on standby in their  Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) role at Fighter Wing 71 “Richthofen” in Wittmund. Just in case, they were armed with live ammunition and AIM-9 Sidewinder missiles. The photos were taken over northern Germany at the end of May 2013.
