Die blauen Phantoms von Misawa
Was für den Briefmarkensammler die Blaue Mauritius ist mag für so manchen Luftfahrtfan die McDonnell Douglas F-4EJ im ungewöhnlichen blauen Tarnschema der 8. Hikotai sein. Am nordöstlichen Ende der Hauptinsel Honshu gelegen ist die Misawa Air Base vor allem ein Stützpunkt der US Air Force. Aber auch die Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) nutzt den Flugplatz, und von 1997 bis 2009 war auch die Phantom hier stationiert.
Aufgrund ihres häufigen Einsatzes über See erhielten einige F-4EJ der 8. Staffel den blauen Anstrich, wie ihn auch die Mitsubishi F-2 trägt. Die Einheit rüstete schließlich auf die F-2 um und verlegte nach Tsuiki. In Misawa sind heute zwei Hikotais der JASDF mit der F-35A Lightning II stationiert. What the Blue Mauritius is to stamp collectors, the McDonnell Douglas F-4EJ in the unusual blue camouflage of the 8th Hikotai may be to many an aviation fan. Located at the north-eastern end of the main island of Honshu Misawa is primarily an air base of the US Air Force. But the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) also uses the airfield, and from 1997 to 2009 the mighty Phantom was based here as well. Because of the frequent missions flown over the sea some F-4EJs of the 8th squadron gained the blue camouflage of the Mitsubishi F-2. The unit eventually converted to the F-2 and moved to Tsuiki. Instead, two Hikotais of the JASDF equipped with the F-35A Lightning II are stationed at Misawa today. The photos of the blue Phantoms were taken in 2005 at Misawa and Iruma.
